Song of the day (April 30)

I'm crunched on time since I'm actually working on my take home finals. Death Cab for Cutie has been my soundtrack for most of the week so here's my favorite song by them, "Transatlanticism".

Not enough credit

It’s very rare for a band from overseas to become a household name in the U.S. Granted there has been popular British bands (hence The Beatles), but one band that is continually growing with popularity is Muse.

With the albums they've made Muse has been underrated by alot of people. Muse is one of the few British bands that have almost made the transition to the states in full circle. I fell in love with their first album Showbiz. They have the complete formula to make a genuine sound of their own. Matthew Bellamy (vocals and guitar) has an obscure way of mixing his high vocals into a pure guitar riff driven song. But, he makes it work. The band has the ability to infuse electro rock, glam rock, classical and space rock (no idea what the crap that is). They've had their equal share of success with their albums Absolution and Black hole and Revelations. They're only slip up was their latest album, Resistance. It has the pure rock sound, but it sounds as though with this album they were trying to make the record company happy. Which they succeed, but it strongly disappointed me minus two songs.

One of the many songs I love by them, "Hysteria".

Song of the day (April 29)

Thom Yorke is a god. And I love this song so here's " House of Cards" by Radiohead.

Lykke Li is highly addictive

I love it when an artist stays unique with their sound. Lykke Li is hands down one of the most creative lyricist today. The Swedish artist’s whispery voice and lovelorn lyrics make each of her songs unforgettable.

I’ve tried so many ways to avoid her when she first came out. I remember seeing her videos on MTVU in the cafeteria. However, I gave her a try when my two persistent friends kept singing her songs out loud and posting her other songs all over MySpace. And I must say that I’m pissed that I actually avoided her. Her music is a mix of soul and electro and her voice makes it better. She has the ability to make you feel the actual raw emotion in any every single lyric.

Her music videos don’t suck either, which is rare for me to say because usually videos ruin the song for me. Her album “Youth Novels” is apparently a book of her life, which sounded like it was filled of break ups and makes ups…cliché I know but I had to do it.

Her latest single “Possibility” is a daringly haunting song. There’s actually a point in the song where the heave of a rocking chair can be heard. She even did a cover of the song “Knocked up” which is by Kings of Leon and that makes her awesome in my eyes.

Songs to download: “Little Bit” & “I’m good, I’m gone”

Britney Spears can eat it...

I'm not a big Britney Spears, but I have to say that Toxic is catchy. Like an unavoidable STD, but good. The band a Static Lullaby covered the song and it's pretty damn rad.

Song of the day (April 26)

I figured the world needed a reminder for why The Strokes are indie bad-asses. Here's the proof..."Juicebox".

Extraordinary Fail...

I love No doubt...I really really do, but damn them if they do not release their new album soon. I will fake punch a dolphin in the blow hole.

Gwen Stefani had her time doing her solo stuff. Her first solo effort was a A+, but her second one strongly annoyed me.

Since seeing No Doubt in concert last summer, I have been anticipating some new songs. But, they've taken their sweet time deciding on a sound to follow and making songs.

So No Doubt you are also now on my "Extraordinary Fail" list until a new song is released.

Extraordinary Fail...

Linkin Park was the undeniable stone to track my high and middle school years. They're first album Hybrid Theory was a astounding album. "Papercut" and "A place for my head" were the best songs from off the album. However the band garnered attention from the big industry heads, but they still stuck to their guns for the second album. Meteora has to be my favorite album of theirs due to every song having the same angst to it. They made no mistakes with this album...not one. At least in my eyes it didn't. Till this day I still love the album.

Linkin Park royally effed up when they decided to make Minutes to Midnight. The album was just completely shitty. Sure, it had it's share of two good songs, but other than that the band sold out to accommodate the scene. They were 10 times greater before they let "it" go it their heads.

So Linkin Park you are now on the list of "Extraordinary Fails".

To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) Day

Today is To Write Love on Her Arms day. Basically it's a day to recognize a non-profit organization as they dedicate a day to broadcast hope and help for those who suffer from depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. To spread the message for the whole day, People simply write "Love" on their arms. The whole purpose of the day is to raise awareness to those who are in pain so that they know their hope and help for them out there. It also shows they have a positive support system. Alot of bands help support this organization such as Paramore, Hawthorne Heights, Switchfoot, The Rocket Summer, Anberlin and A Skylit Drive.

Here's an excerpt of the TWLOHA's vision statement:
The vision is that community and hope and help would replace secrets and silence.

The vision is people putting down guns and blades and bottles.

The vision is that we can reduce the suicide rate in America and around the world.

The vision is that we would learn what it means to love our friends, and that we would love ourselves enough to get the help we need.

The vision is better endings. The vision is the restoration of broken families and broken relationships. The vision is people finding life, finding freedom, finding love. The vision is graduation, a Super Bowl, a wedding, a child, a sunrise. The vision is people becoming incredible parents, people breaking cycles, making change.

The vision is the possibility that your best days are ahead.

The vision is the possibility that we're more loved than we'll ever know.

The vision is hope, and hope is real.

You are not alone, and this is not the end of your story.

Song of the day (April 21)

Song of the day is "Jesus Stole My Girlfriend" by Violent Soho.

Song of the day (April 20th)

True story:
"What do you mean Kings of Leon has more than just two songs," stupid blonde said.
"What fricken album have you been listening to that only two songs are on there?" I asked.
"Their newest one only had 'Sex on Fire' and 'Use Somebody' right," the blonde responded.
"You're a fricken idiot," I whispered.

This is to the stupid chick I had a conversation with today about KOL. Here's a song from off their album, Because of the Times. Here's a tidbit: All four of their albums had more than 11 songs on them. Two had 13 or more and two had 11. So face whorebaggot!

Song of the day: "True Love Way"

Song of the day (April 18)

If I could have one band define my teen years and my current life It would be Incubus. I've loved them since 1997. Brandon Boyd is the epitome of brilliant and the band collectively are just musical geniuses.

So the song of the day is "Pardon Me" from their third studio album Make Yourself (1999). This is song is pure epic-ness.

Worth a listen...

Someone told me a few days ago that Hayley Williams from Paramore collaborated on a rap song. I wasn't going to give it a try until I realized that the rap song isn't like the typical ones that I usually hate. B.O.B. is a mix of Lupe Fiasco and Kid Cudi. The song is't bad, she's strays away from the rap part of the song, but her voice gives the song emotion.

10 songs that should be in your head...

Here are ten songs that should be on constant repeat in your head. I advise you to stock up on iTunes money.

1.) "Number Five with a Bullet" by Taking Back Sunday
2.) "Turn me off" by Audrye Sessions
3.) "Animal" by Mindless Self Indulgence
4.) "Everybody get dangerous" by Weezer
5.) "Skeptics and True Believers" by The Academy is...
6.) "Call it off" by Tegan and Sara
7.) "Well thought out twinkles" by Silversun Pickups
8.) "Shake it out" by Manchester Orchestra
9.) "All I wanted" by Paramore
10.) "Monsters" by Hurricane Bells

Tad bit disappointed...

I just have the realization that no more singles from Taking Back Sunday's latest album, New Again will be released due to their two members leaving the band to start other projects. I'm glad that John Nolan and Shaun Cooper have returned to the band, but I'm a little disappointed that New Again didn't get the full attention it deserved. I strongly think it was one of their best albums. For those who didn't get a chance to experience the awesomeness here's my favorite song off of the album, "Everything must go".

And here's the song being performed live:

Song of the day (April 13th)

The song for the day is "Vaporize" by Broken Bells. This band immediately grew on me. So give them a listen.

A long over-due concert review...

On. November 20th 2009 I went to the All-American Rejects with Taking Back Sunday and Anberlin concert  at the House of Blues. I forgot that I wrote something up for it, until now.

Contrary to belief not everyone was watching the New Moon  movie Nov. 20; about 1,800 people piled into the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach to witness three amazing bands perform.
The All American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday and Anberlin drew in a mixed of crowd of teenagers, young adults, adults, and even some elderly.
Opening Act
Anberlin opened up the show with songs such as “A day late” and a cover of the 80’s song “True Faith” by New Order. They also performed, “Godspeed”, “Paperthin Hymn”, “A Whisper and a Clamor”, “Disappear”, and “The Unwinding cable car”.
The band hails from Winter Haven, Fla., and formed in 2002. They finished up their set with, “Feel good drag” the first single off of their first major studio album, “New Surrender”. Only a handful of audience sang along, but by the end of their set it was evident that they had gained more fans.
Co-headliners
Taking Back Sunday conquered the stage next and exceeded all expectations, having seen them live at Projekt Revolution in 2007.
Taking Back Sunday’s new guitarist and back-up vocalist Matt Fazzi was the best surprise of the night by performing with a medical walking boot on his left foot the whole night.  He fractured his foot during a tour in Dublin, Ireland.
They opened up their set with songs such as “Cute without the ‘E’” and “A decade under the influence”.
Lead singer, Adam Lazzara took time to mention that he used to live in High Point, N.C.  Every time he said North Carolina he got cheers from some N.C. natives in the audience.
“I’m just gonna say that all night long,” Lazzara said.
At one point, Lazzara stood at the tip of the stage and announced that a girl only a mere few feet away had been on a cell phone for two songs.
“Honey, how can you hear anything, it’s so loud in here,” he said as he banged the microphone on the stage.  He also pointed out two girls in the front row who were texting during a song.
The band performed songs from their latest album, “New Again”. The whole audience sung along to the single, “Sink into me”. A mosh pit was formed when they performed “Lonely, Lonely”
Lazzara, Fazzi and bass player Matt Rubano shared quirky comments with fans. Rubano insisted that “If you can’t swim, you fail at life.”
Headliners
The headliners of the tour, All American Rejects, rushed the stage with lights beaming in every direction and young girls screaming for life.
The All American rejects kicked-off with their most known song in the world, “Move along”.
Lead singer, Tyson Ritter seemed to be the pop idol of every 16 year olds dream with his attire of white jeans, wet hair and gold and blue with a hint of glitter body paint on his bare chest.
Their performance of “Dirty Little secret” even caused a commotion, when a young girl in the front row tried gripping a hold of Ritter as he sung his lungs out.
The left hand side of the audience was treated to guitar picks being thrown at them. Some tug of wars happened to catch one lone pick.
The audience was elated when Ritter stood on the barricade for the acoustic version of the song, “Mona Lisa”
