Bat for Lashes equals amazing

British bands seem to be all the rage today; it must be a Beatles thing. The musical artist Bat for Lashes is an exceptional singer from the U.K.

At first listen it seems as though there is a quartet of musicians in the band. However, Natasha Kahn the sole band member of Bat for Lashes dawns the hats of many instruments including the piano, guitar, autoharp and a harpsichord.

The music videos there were made for both of Kahn’s albums have made an infinite impact on the Indie scene.

Khan has been categorized to have a “dream pop” sound due to her melodies interlining with popular childhood fables. Each song seems like a beautiful dream sequence with a hint of charm added to the words.

Her first album Fur and Gold was released in the U.S. in 2007. The all around hippie persona she embodies is shown in the album with songs such as, “Sad Eyes” and “What a Girl to do.” The singer/songwriter mixed various instruments into the album. Many of the songs are driven by their strong choruses.

Khan has noted that bands such as MGMT and TV on the Radio as influences for her second album, Two Suns. Khan released her alter ego “Pearl” thru out the album with the songs “Daniel” and “Pearl’s dream”.

Her voice has a certain Kate Bush and Bjork quality to it. She references emotions in her songs that seem to be kept locked upside. From start to finish the album has an automatic hook on the listener.

Songs to Download: “Sleep Alone” & “I’m on Fire”

10 summer movies that should whoop some ass...

1. Iron Man 2
This movie should dominate at the box office considering the first one did so well. Robert Downing Jr. has been able to revitalize his career with this movie franchise and all the comic book nerds unite for the cause. So, far the movie has the fifth highest opening weekend.

2.Twilight: Eclipse
One word: Girls. Yes considering I am a girl (woman), every 16 year old is going to flock this to movie. Not only will they flock to it, but so will almost every other women in the world. Don't underestimate the power of the two X chromosomes. If the first two movies were any indication of what the last two films will be like, the attendance records will continue to rise.

3.The A-Team
Being the 80's nerd I am, I have high high hopes for this movie. I sporadically watched the series when I was younger. I figured it left an impact when I was the kid who used to shout, "I petty the fool" a lot. The movie brings together Liam Neeson as the the team leader and Bradley Cooper is just there for proper eye candy.

4.Inception
This movie will be successful for one reason: It will blow your mind, metaphorically speaking of course. The trailer looks amazing as Leonardo DiCaprio depicts the role of the skilled thief in the Chris Nolan film.

5.Shrek Forever After
I don't want to go into a deep analytic explanation for this movie. All I'm going to say is that kids are what make parents spend money. And I do believe there are a butt-load of kids in the world. The last Shrek I watched and somewhat enjoyed was the first one.

6.Toy Story 3
Once again kids. So I have a feeling I'm going to be dragged to this movie by my brother and sister. But it kills me that they took so long to make the third installment for this massive movie franchise.

Sidenote: The trailer for this movie was unable to be embedded.

7.Robin Hood
I don't really care much about this movie, there are just some things that shouldn't be redone and this happens to be one of them. I think Russell Crowe is amazing, but still eh.

8.MacGruber
I don't know a lot of people who would find this movie amusing, but they can eat rocks. Will Forte brings his SNL character to the bring screen along with Ryan Phillippe. Even Val Kilmer's, more developed body helps brings the laughter. If you seriously don't go watch this movie, you're first in line to die during a "Dawn of the Dead" zombie attack.

9.Despicable Me
I have to say that this movie actually looks pretty good. I have to admit I laughed during some scenes in the trailer. Steve Carell is always able to deliver. And once again, kids get anything they want.

10.Sex and the City 2
I hate this series, I really do. I don't find Sarah Jessica Parker attractive, she reminds me of the Roger from American Dad. My mom tried forcing me to watch the first movie and I hid from her for hours to avoid the travesty. But, women on menopause have another mind frame.

Honorable mentions:
The Last Airbender
Prince of Persia
The Other Guys
Scott Pilgrim vs The World

Song of the Day (May 13)

If anyone knows me, they know my deep lust for Taking Back Sunday. I've seen them in concert twice and I can't wait to witness the awesomeness live again. With that rant said, the song of the day is "Divine Intervention" by none other than Taking Back Sunday.

Electro pop trio make waves in Canada

I've been on a tirade about moving to Canada for months now. It just seems 2,000 better than North Carolina. My love for the great North has been highly influenced by the amazing bands that emerge from the area.

Musical groups have always had a niche for creating off-the-wall names to represent their musical style and a way to sell their music to the masses. One group in particular is Dragonette.

The band hails from Ontario, Canada and formed in 2005. The electro pop trio has released two major studio albums. The band’s first EP was a self titled effort that broadcasted the bands ability to make a catchy dance beat.

Their first album Galore, which was released in 2007, garnered a fair share of listeners.

However, the band only released two music videos for the album. But, an underground music video for “I Get Around” was released and it didn’t help the single capture a top spot on the billboards in the U.K. But, in Canada the band gained more fans of their first album.

Lead singer, Martina Sorbara has collaborated with other dance-pop artist in the U.K. and Canada. Her sharp tongue and raunchy lyrics make her into a idealistic front women.

In 2008, the band was nominated for a Juno award (the equivalent to a Grammy in the U.S.) for Best New Group.

Their second studio album Fixin’ to Thrill has become a follow-up success in Canada. Following of the coattails of the album’s release it was announced that the band will be performing at the annual concert event Lollapalooza in Chicago, Ill.

Songs to download: “Fixin’ to Thrill” & “I Get Around”

Here's the video to their single "Fixin' to Thrill". You better enjoy it!

Song of the Day (May 4)

My semester is slowing winding down, so I'll have more than enough time to really be on top of the blog this summer. But till then here's the song of the day "Hands Down" by Dashboard Confessional. Hence the fact that it's been playing in my head all day.

Hooked...

Band of Horses new album is on top of my list of "things to buy on iTunes as soon I get paid again."

Here's video of the band performing their new single "Factory" on the Jools Holland Show.

Finally

Blink 182 have been "working" on their new album since the day they announced the bands reunion. It feels as though that was five years ago. But, in a recent interview Tom DeLonge spoke about the album. Here's a bit that Tim Karan from Altpress.com wrote:

In a recent interview, Blink-182 vocalist/guitarist Tom DeLonge revealed that the band will resume recording their first full-length since 2003's Blink-182 in June.

DeLonge also spoke about his former addiction to Vicodin and how he feels about Blink's hiatus which started in 2005. "My biggest failure was the breakup of Blink," DeLonge said. "That was a failure of friendships, businesses and communications. In our hearts, we thought that was forever and gone. What's funny is, at the time, I looked at it as a triumph. The fact that I was able to make a decision so detrimental to myself and identity and start fresh was pretty victorious."

He also said it was Travis Barker's 2008 plane crash that caused the band to announce their reunion in early 2009. "If that accident hadn't happened, we wouldn't be a band," DeLonge said. "Plain and simple. That was fate."

In my own words, I can't wait till June. Until then, I guess this will be my Blink 182 fix.

Song of the day (May 2)

"Let's make out" by Does it Offend you, yeah?

Song of the day (May 1)
